What is Moulage?
Moulage is a technique widely used in creating couture garments.
In moulage, the garment is directly draped and shaped on a dress form or the body of a model.
This technique offers several advantages over traditional pattern-making techniques:

Fit
A key strength of moulage is that it allows the designer to adapt the garment very precisely to the shape of the wearer’s body.
This is possible because the designer can directly see how the fabric forms around the body and where adjustments may be needed. As a result, the garment can be fitted more accurately than when the pattern is drawn on paper (what you see is what you get).

Creative Design
Additionally, moulage offers many creative possibilities.
As the designer can drape and shape the fabric directly on the body, new designs and silhouettes can be created more easily.
This allows for the creation of very unique and striking couture garments.

Students on Moulage: FREEDOM!

The course was very inspiring and educational. And the most important thing for me is that I’ve gained the feeling that I can simply try out the designs I have in my head on a dress form. And sort of sculpt with fabric.
I would recommend this course to anyone who wants to learn to design with more freedom.
For me, moulage is a kind of freedom. No longer thinking in terms of impossibilities, but simply exploring and trying out possibilities along the way. Very inspiring!
“You can visually adjust your pattern until you’re satisfied, whereas on paper you always have to wait and see how it looks in reality.”
Educational to think in a different way.

Frequently Asked Questions
I have no knowledge of pattern drawing. Is this course suitable for me?
If you’re new to creating your own patterns, we think this program is the best way to start!
How much will I spend approximately on materials?
That’s up to you. You can get started with an old sheet and a dress form, scissors, and pins.
Note: As a course participant, you’ll receive a special discount coupon for purchasing a fantastic half-scale dress form.
How long do I have access to the online course?
In principle, you have unlimited access to the course. Should the course be discontinued, you’ll be notified in advance.
I can already draw patterns. Why would I want to learn moulage?
For two reasons: 1) through moulage, it’s easy to make personal adjustments to existing patterns for a better fit, and 2) with moulage, you create a link in your mind to designing! This way, you can easily come up with ingenious solutions for any ‘problem’ and your clothing will much more reflect your vision of fashion.
Do you need a dress form to participate in this course?
A dress form is very handy! In principle, you can also mould on a person, but that’s more difficult when you’re still learning. The dress form for the technique can be very simple (thrift store or outlet) or half-scale (sometimes much cheaper).
Moulage opens the way to COUTURE
Whether you have a lot of experience with sewing and pattern drawing, or still little: the art of moulage forever changes your perspective of what’s possible!
It lets you experience that what your hands try out with fabric can actually lead to a new design.
Do you dare to take the leap and embark on the adventure?
(No pattern drawing experience needed!)
I hope to see you on the other side!
