Masterclass making a Corset
After an introduction to the history of the corset, Irene explains the techniques that will be discussed during this masterclass. She will show examples from her own studio, so that you really gain insight into its construction.
Then we will work on our basic pattern for a corset in a way that suits us: by either making a pattern (you can prepare this at home) or shaping the pattern with fabric on a mannequin. Tips from the studio, in combination with seeing Irene at work, are the pillars on which this masterclass are built.
The second day different ways will be shown in which you can use the base of a corset for a special application. Consider, for example, adding lace or the so-called technique ‘frowning’ of fabric. We will as well discuss ways in which you could make a nice closure.
Eventually you will work out a corset yourself on the third day with the techniques learned.
