Agenda
Do you remember … a year ago?
Unbelievable that it is only a year ago, when all of us in innocence thought we could plan our schedule and take fun or useful courses whenever and wherever we wanted? It seems like a century has passed in the meantime …
First of all, of course, I hope you are doing well. Are you still in good health? Have you been able to find your way around the new labyrinth called lockdown? Maybe, like me, you have found a different rhythm in your day, in your work and in your social contacts.
My urge to create is now greater than ever. I am so happy to have a studio within walking distance of my house, where I can go whenever I want to create new things with fabric, needle and thread. I always get a lot of hope and energy out of it! Fine music on and … go!
Fortunately, for those who are open to it, a world of new possibilities has now emerged that many didn’t think of or didn’t want to think of a year ago. New possibilities that help you and me move forward. That let us grow. That even let us flourish. Even in these challenging times. Isn’t that amazing?
I am taking an interior design course and a costume design course myself. In ordinary times I might not have allowed myself the luxury of taking these classes, but now it is something to look forward to daily! To take a moment to dream away and develop new ideas and skills.
Blueprint to Unique Designs
Dutch Couture Academy has been providing online courses for about eight years. In December I decided to change the way I offer these courses.
And the first version of that was the brand new program Blueprint to Unique Designs, a brief introduction to moulage. How much we enjoyed this course together! Half of the participants immediately made room in their agenda to continue with the sequel in February: Basic course Moulage Tops & Skirts! I can’t wait for us to start again …
In Blueprint to Unique Designs, the following was covered:
- what is the minimum you need to start draping?
- what are the requirements for a mannequin?
- how do you start with draping/moulage?
- how to make a good pattern from your draping?
A year ago, you and I might not have thought to teach and follow this technique online. But see here the result! It can be done! And as you will read further on: with great enthusiasm!
Student responses
After the course, many students told us what they thought of it. Here you can read some of their reviews.
The two videos were very clear and instructive. No problem to understand the principles of the Technik. You motivate to be creative and try something new. I would have loved to try the moulage technique right away, but I had no dress form and no model. I liked your quick answers to questions and it was lovely to see the work of the others.- Bettina
‘Followed the short corset draping course. Totally loved it. The two videos were very helpful and the live q en a was fun and well explained. Would love to do another online course!’- Linda Isbrucker
’I recommend the short courses online. As I live in Portugal, now I have the privilege and opportunity to have Saskia teaching me!-Graça Paquete
Before I applied to Blueprint for Unique Designs I was studying fashion design part time. We did not learn this technique, so I had only seen photos online. The course was so informative and interesting and opened up a whole new way of fitting and designing.
Most significant for me has been the opportunity to enrollto start finding out how moulage works and how it opens up a whole new way of designing. I would recommend this course to anyone who is interested in learning moulage for the first time.It opens up such a personal view of designing and making a garment. Moulage is for me and I want to keep learning more advanced techniques.- Allison Walker
Saskia – this was a wonderful introduction.I did not know what moulage was but gave it a chance and I do like it.I would like to use these techniques more, but don’t quite know enough.I find other websites about creating corsets, but they seem to be different types. Terrific – I have to say my head is spinning with ways to use this.the first thing i want to do is to pad my adjustable dress form.First things first!- Devon Skeele
Saskia always has such a warm smile. You can tell she really cares about her students and teaching and inspiring us with our designs! I have always wanted to learn how to make a corset, so having that as the Moulage class topic was a bonus! Course materials and step-by-step instructions are explained really clearly. The follow-up Q&A was particularly helpful as a lot of questions I had (after watching Part 1 and Part 2) were cleared up. The session also delve deeper into the corset making tips and techniques. Definitely would recommend any course offered here and planning to signup for future courses! Thanks for putting together this course!- Connie Choo
Do you think after reading this: I want this too! Then sign up NOW! Registration for Moulage Tops and Skirts (including Blueprint to Unique Designs) expires Thursday January 28th, 2021. The price of this course will go up next time.

The program of workshops, master classes and courses at Dutch Couture Academy is aimed at (upcoming) professionals in the fashion industry who are looking for an opportunity to specialise in couture techniques.
