Stock
Embroidery with ribbon or finishing with ribbon: the stock of ribbon I carry in my studio is large. And yet I find that there can always be another reason to use a different kind of ribbon.
In this video Talking Ribbons, I show you what differences are important when choosing ribbon for embroidery. The video is English-spoken. Watch it here:
Types of Ribbon
The various aspects of Ribbon we discuss include the following:
- What is the material the ribbon is made of? (Artificial or a natural origin?)
- How is the ribbon finished (or not?)
- how wide or flat is the ribbon?
- Can the ribbon be processed with a needle?
Magical Silk Ribbon
Personally, I think the properties of silk ribbon are magical! The material is particularly supple and therefore can be processed very well. And that’s exactly why I have dedicated an online course specifically to embroidery with silk ribbon. In fact, a number of specific tricks apply to make working with silk ribbon easier with subsequent stunning (and fast!) results.
Creative Bundle
The online course Magic Silk Ribbon normally costs 77 euros. Today and tomorrow you can buy a complete bundle of as many as 56 online courses, master classes and ebooks for about the same price at this link. That’s a no-brainer if you ask me. And immediately a delightful start to new creative discoveries this fall. So be sure to take a look and let me know which course has your interest.
Please note that the Creative Bundle is available until Wednesday morning, November 16 2022, 8:00 a.m. CET! So don’t wait to order but do it now.
Talking Ribbons
The training program at Dutch Couture Academy is based on learning to understand why a particular technique is used. Simply learning a stitch is not our focus. In my opinion that is pointless and uninspiring. A technique becomes interesting when you understand the reason why something is done in a certain way. After all, new applications can be devised from there.
I’m curious what your experiences are with ribbon. Do you use it in embroidery? Or as finishing touches on clothing? Share your best tip with us in a comment below this blog.
