Shingo Sato
Shingo Sato has been a name for years when it comes to special pattern techniques. I followed his extensive online training program years ago and became the first TR Master in the Netherlands. TR refers to the technique he developed in which he transforms a pattern step by step into a true work of art. Sato is a leading figure for what many call “Japanese Patterning Techniques”. I have since followed several training courses with him (online), I have applied his techniques in my own couture collections and for clients, and I have taught his techniques and I have given lectures on Japanese Pattern Techniques. However, I have never met him live.
Shingo Sato is coming to the Netherlands
Much to my delight, Shingo Sato is visiting the Dutch Couture Academy this summer for a high level training in Creative Moulage. In this special, intuitive way of draping, the best of Japanese pattern technique with draping techniques comes together in a fluent interplay in the third dimension.
What does Creative Moulage look like?
At Creative Moulage, the body is modeled, as it were, with fabric and painter’s tape. Here you have ultimate control over the final (flowing, perfectly fitting) shape. Only then are the seams drawn in the model. This form of moulage differs completely from the traditional form of moulage. This also poses technical challenges to the sewing. In this course you will learn to deal with this.
You can drape different items of clothing in this way, such as a jacket and trousers.
What do the course days look like?
On arrival we drink coffee/tea and get to know each other. In this masterclass we work with a very small group (maximum 6) and two teachers. So it’s almost like a private lesson. Because we work cross-culturally, you are expected to understand English and to be open and flexible. This is a program for the advanced fashion maker. For lovers of new experiences, techniques and contacts. What exactly is discussed depends partly on the pace of work. In any case, it will be educational and fun!
Are you an ambitious fashion maker and do you have experience with draping and/or Japanese pattern techniques? Then you are most welcome to sign up for this unique opportunity to see Shingo at work and get started yourself. This high value Summer Masterclass is unique! High value for several reasons:
- we work with a small group of a maximum of 6 students
- we assume that you already have extensive experience with draping and/or Japanese pattern techniques, so that we can go in depth these days
- we expect a high degree of independence in developing the technology on site
- we create an inspiring environment in which you can concentrate on taking your pattern skills to the next level
- after this masterclass you will go home with a new understanding of what is possible
- you will look at your work with different eyes with new ideas and inspiration
- you will meet new people who share your passion for patterns
There will be a ZOOM meeting well in advance, in which you will receive tips on how to prepare for this masterclass as well as possible. A few weeks after the course there is a Q&A in which you can ask Saskia questions and in which we discuss the masterclass: everything is aimed at getting the best possible result.
This course includes:
- fabric
- coffee, tea, lunches
- two Zoom meetings
- closing drinks
