As a student you don’t always think about it, but do you know what’s best for someone who teaches? That students achieve results with what they learn! That they are successful with the application of new skills.
Today I am happy to share with you some of the results of the new online course: Couture Silk Flower making. Where the initial setup of this course was to be the online representation of our beloved one-day workshop Silk Flower Making in the studio, it grew into a more versatile program with no less than five different flower making techniques. Flowers that can be used in clothing and accessories.
This time a course with which a certificate can be obtained. In order to qualify for this certificate, students are expected to make assignments and hand in tests. These tests consist of questions about the course material and sending in pictures of their own work as a result of the assignments.
Gladly surprised
The first batch of students is now busy and the results are steadily arriving in my mailbox. And what results! I’d like to share something with you here.
Each technique is explained step-by-step. These techniques are simple enough for everyone to do. Like for example making flowers with feathers.

Application
And following the basic technique, suggestions are made with which you can challenge yourself and look for a personal way to apply the technique. For example, Verónica made a blouse with loose organza flowers (pay special attention to the heart of each flower!):

Moodboard
Before you start working on an assignment, you are encouraged to bring your ideas together in a mood board. This can look like this, for example:

Hats
And if you think there’s only one way to put flowers on a hat, you’re mistaken! Then look how Josemieke deals with this and gives it her own twist:

Flower?
And although you start with a flower, an effect can also be different. Just look at this special flower and necklace by Ellen:

Couture training
The programme of workshops, master classes and training courses at Dutch Couture Academy is aimed at (future) professionals in the fashion industry who are looking for an opportunity to specialise in couture techniques. Also enthusiastic amateurs are very welcome! In the courses a balance is sought between technique and inspiration, between knowledge and skills and artistic expressiveness. Discovering one’s own handwriting is seen as crucial in the distinctive craftsmanship of each student.
