Studyweek Juli 1-5 2019
Woohoo! Last year a success, and now in a slightly changed form in the repeat: the international study week! This week the official language will be English.
What can you expect from this week? It is in the midst of summer. Doesburg looks beautiful. The doors of the studio are wide open. Together with others you work on improving your techniques or learning something that is totally new to you. You will work on your own project under the supervision of Saskia. Your project can be anything. For example:
- Chanel jacket
- Broderie d’Art (introduction or simply expanding your techniques and design skills)
- Couture clothing (beautiful finish of your clothing)
- Moulage
- Japanese Pattern Techniques

Because everyone is working on something else, you can exchange wonderfully over and over again. Seeing others work is contagious!
Sabine’s experience last year
This is what Sabine said about her week in the studio last year:
” You learn what they don’t teach you in Paris and what you need to succeed when getting started.” After being educated at Ecole Lesage in Paris, that’s what appealed to me instantly.
A week full of a variety of topics around embroidery, fashion design and business, visits to wonderful museums to get inspired, and transforming those inner pictures in an embroidery design and even a collection waited for me.
After marking my embroidery design with fat green lines onto a dress that we made on the dress form the day before, I found myself standing in front of the mirror, smiling very broadly at my half-sided toile-dress and realising that my ideas started materialising and were actually getting within reach.
Thanks to Saskia, who was very encouraging and never let me get away on the easy path, I achieved so much more than I expected in this intense week.
So I return home with a lot of tools, a lot of ideas and even more important: this spark inside I was hoping for to get started with realising my ideas- and actually my first little collection inspired by Lalique, Piet Mondriaan and a bee :-).
Thank you so much Saskia, for a wonderful week!
Challenging and enriching
We will look this weeks for your creative limits: how can you go beyond these limits and thus take new paths? Saskia knows how to motivate you to go one step further than your comfort zone. And it is precisely there that renewal and wonder are waiting for you to be discovered!
For example, you can follow one of the regular courses that are taught in the atelier. Like, for example, four days following the Introduction Course Haute Couture Embroidery, and then another day taking the Gold Embroidery course. Or you can go crazy with moulage! But maybe you have a project in which you did get stuck, and you would like to work on that? Everything is possible! Oh yes, it will also be fun! We take care of that.
If you are unsure whether this week will suit you, please feel free to contact Saskia: saskia@saskiaterwelle.nl or call: +31 (0)686803915.

Couture training
The program of workshops, masterclasses and courses at Saskia ter Welle focuses on (prospective) professionals in the fashion industry who are looking for an opportunity to specialise in couture techniques. Enthusiastic amateurs are also very welcome! The courses seek a balance between technology and inspiration, between knowledge and skills and artistic expression. Discovering one’s own handwriting is seen as crucial in the distinctive craftsmanship of each student.
