Would you like to learn from home?
An interactive online learning program
This free trial lesson introduces you to an extensive, interactive, program in the field of haute couture embroidery techniques and design which we have available online. It is the combination of embroidery techniques, the mastering of the design process and knowledge about the sourcing of materials which together enables you to start to design and implement your own embroidery designs.
Without a knowledge of the needed materials and without insight into the design process, you depend on ready-made designs. And for Tambour Embroidery, these are hard to find! (and you also really want to shape your own ideas, right?)
Courses
After completing this free trial lesson in Tambour Embroidery, the following courses are available online on this website:
- Introduction Tambour Embroidery
- Silk Ribbon Embroidery
To complete your training program, you can continue to follow the courses Mastering Broderie d’Art 1, 2 & 3 in our atelier after finishing the Introduction Tambour Embroidery online course. It is advisable to also do an internship at a fashion house or embroidery establishment if you want to become proficient in Haute Couture Embroidery.
Introduction Tambour Embroidery
The course Introduction Tambour Embroidery lays the foundation of learning embroidery with techniques used at the haute couture fashion houses in Paris. You will learn how to stretch a large embroidery frame, the basic stitches of the tambour needle in which you also apply beads and sequins, and the processing of materials, such as silk yarn, chenille and raffia. You will learn what to look for when finishing your embroidery project as well as that you will discover some of the ways in which you can apply this rich embroidery technique.
After this introductory course is completed, you will have sufficient knowledge to start carrying out simple embroidery projects from A to Z.
This course is suitable for both the amateur as well as the professional.
Silk Ribbon Embroidery
Silk Ribbon is an interesting material that has a number of special processing techniques that can also be used with other materials. It is a nice addition to the available Broderie d’Art courses.

The online course consists of:
- Videos with explanation of a special technique. The videos are subtitled (English);
- Clear texts
- Online tests
- Photos (of your (embroidery) results that you submit for review)
- Personal feedback
- Two vouchers for an afternoon live instruction in the studio in Doesburg (you can book this during the Cultural Sundays in Doesburg) or alternatively through Skype;
- Access to a closed Facebook group; this group brings you in touch with other students right away.
With this package we offer the best of two worlds: Information, Inspiration and Interaction.

Free trial lesson
The free trial lesson consists of two parts, and does not require anything else:
Part 1: Introduction to Tambour Embroidery
The term ‘Broderie d’Art’: what exactly is meant by it? Where and how is’Broderie d’Art ‘applied? During this introduction, the term and application are explained in preparation for the first practical lesson: stretching the embroidery frame.
Part 2: Mounting the embroidery frame
Embroidery becomes really beautiful when you work on an embroidery frame. The fabric can be stretched tight, so that the embroidered result is nice and flat. Although it does require some preparation for every new project, it pays back twice.
What should you pay attention to when stretching your frame? And what can go wrong? During this introductory lesson the stretching of the frame is explained and presented.
