‘Broderie d’Art’ is more than just ‘beading’. This project, which is designed by Ecole Lesage, is a beautiful example of this. A wonder of combination in materials makes this heart something to keep looking at! The details are endless, although the colour scheme is simple: white with a touch of gold.
In The Netherlands we know embroidery as a colourful play with threads. The haute couture view on the matter is quite different. It changes the focus from two-dimensional to three-dimensional, which makes it possible to start working on the reflection of the light.
The embroidery is executed on a large embroidery frame. The fabric we work on is silk organdy. When you begin it looks like this:
It takes more than 50 hours to finish a project like this when you do it for the first time. After some practice it gets easier and easier, like any skill you learn.
